The Trains | Metra City | Metra Suburban | Airport Express | Amtrak and High Speed Rail | Feeder Buses
Today, Metra is serving two very distinct markets with the same trains. Metra's big trains are ok for rush-hour suburban service with big crowds heading downtown for work. They are poorly suited for the closely spaced stations and the all-day transit needs within Cook County.
CrossRail will create tracks for lighter, more nimble trains that could provide more CTA-like service, with a train every 15-minutes, full Ventra integration and stronger coordination with CTA and Pace bus routes.
Other routes that could support similar service include the Rock Island, UP North and UP Northwest.
